Opshop Headlines Southland Uni Games

Platinum-selling band Opshop will head line at the closing of the Southland Uni Games next month.

Venturing south thanks to grabaseat, Opshop will perform at Stadium Southland on Friday, April 16, at the conclusion of three days of quality tertiary sporting competition throughout Southland.

University Sport New Zealand (USNZ), Stadium Southland and Sport Southland are thrilled to have Opshop feature as part of an action-packed Uni Games closing ceremony – a sentiment not lost on the award-winning band.

USNZ National Events Manager and Games Director Dene Lynch said Opshop's involvement was a huge coup.

“Offering a first class gig to our student athletes, our volunteers and the Southland public is one way we can really show our appreciation for all the hard work, time and resources being dedicated to delivering the Southland Uni Games in April.

“We are extremely grateful for all the support from the Southland community and look forward to showcasing the fantastic sporting facilities here, including track cycling at the ILT Velodrome, to all our student athletes from throughout New Zealand.”

OPSHOP will be supported by the soulful, harmonic rhythms of eight piece local band Rhythmonyx. With an element of electronica, Rhythmonyx blend roots and dub, a twist of hip-hop with a touch of jazz and drum and bass, creating a contagious sound that is bound to get everyone onto the dance floor.

Tickets go on sale Monday, March 15 and are available from Stadium Southland, through Ticket Direct outlets or online at www.ticketdirect.co.nz. Public Early Bird sales are $25 until 31 March and are $35 thereafter. Tickets are $25 for all students with student I.D. Doors open at 8pm on Friday, April 16, at Stadium Southland.
