Permaculture is an integrated approach to designing your house, garden, farm and community for sustainability in both urban and rural settings. Learn from nature to create abundant harvests, beauty and energy efficiency, all with minimum time and effort, and a lot of fun!

This 28 hour course runs over four Saturdays and covers permaculture ethics and principles, site design, house design, soil, water in the landscape, community and local economics, with practical sessions on composting, no-dig beds and site design.

Courses are run through Sustaining Hawke’s Bay Trust/Environment Centre, take place on site at Kahikatea Farm (Poukawa), and are led by Jo Duff. Jo has been teaching permaculture and sustainability courses for five years and was HB Gardener of the Year in 2007. Kahikatea Farm is a 16 acre farm being developed according to permaculture principles with plenty of examples of permaculture design suited to urban and rural settings, including edible gardens, seed-raising area, ponds, food forest and wild areas.
