The New Zealand International Jazz & Blues Festival presents: The Press Headliners

James Morrison - Louis Armstrong Tribute

James Morrison is a virtuoso in the true sense of the word. An accomplished and world renowned musician, he has dazzled audiences around the globe with his dynamic trumpet playing and charismatic showmanship. This festival James is bringing Louis Armstrong Tribute show to Christchurch.

Both Armstrong and Morrison are musicians known for their captivating stage presence and gifted musical skills. With many parallels in musical presentation, James Morrison is the perfect horn player to pay tribute to this legendary composer, musician and vocalist.

Morrison has enjoyed a highly successful and varied career as an international touring musician. In 2009, he was chosen as a mentor on Australian Idol, where he also played alongside crooner Harry Connick Jnr. He has performed at festivals all over Europe including Montreaux, Pori, North Sea, Nice and Bern, and has played alongside the likes of Dizzy Gillespie, Cab Calloway, Woody Shaw, Red Rodney, George Benson, Ray Charles, B.B. King, Ray Brown and Wynton Marsalis.

With support from Emma Pask (vocals), Paul Dyne (double bass), Lance Su’a (guitar), Daniel Kennedy (drums) and a guest appearance by Seattle musician Thomas Marriott (trumpet).

Don’t miss this opportunity to hear one of the world’s greatest living trumpet players performing some of the greatest songs in the American songbook, composed by one of the most important and influential musicians of the twentieth-century.
