Dance of Desire – the most spectacular show to come out of Ireland in years – has had to push back its New Zealand tour by three weeks due to extended demand in Australia.
The all-Irish production will now begin its 12-city New Zealand’s tour on the Saturday of the Easter long weekend, April 3.
Producer Michael Carr of Ceol Chiarrai Productions Dublin apologises for any inconvenience this schedule change has meant for showgoers.
"Existing ticketholders need do nothing - just come along on the re-scheduled night and have a great time with our people!"
“It will mean that when we get to New Zealand we can run the tour uninterrupted by any demands from other territories.”
Dance of Desire is described as “edgy, somewhat more adventurous than past Irish Dance shows, featuring “A” level championship performers”.
Over the past year the show has played in Paris, New York, Beijing, Seoul, Kuala Lumpur and now its record ten month season in Australia.
Covering 12 New Zealand cities, Dance of Desire boasts a large cast of dancers and Celtic musicians.
Dance of Desire is described by critics as stunning and amazing. The high voltage, all-Irish production challenges the boundaries of other Irish dance productions and has uniquely elevated the world of Irish dance to a new level.
From the makers of ‘Spirit of Ireland’ & ‘Dance on the Moon’, Ceol Chiarraí Productions Ltd ground breaking production Dance of Desire is a show with everything: colour and light, wonderful original music, clever dramatic content, and incredible dancing that truly pushes the boundaries of choreography and fuses Irish dance seamlessly with Flamenco, Latin American, Middle Eastern, ballet and ballroom styles, with a few acrobatics thrown in.
Dance of Desire takes the traditional Irish Celtic legend of the "Children of Lir”, a mythical tale about a wicked spell cast over the children of the magical Lord of The Sea, Lir, by their wicked stepmother, and gives it a treatment reminiscent of the Kirov Ballet’s approach to Swan Lake, turning it into a tale with a happy ending.
Special prices are available for Dance schools, Family Groups and Senior Citizens. Michael Carr says “we are very proud of this, our finest ever show. Despite the state of the world economic climate, we have succeeded in presenting a world class performance within the price range of the average New Zealander – and for a production of this quality, that’s something.”
