Tautai written by Iaheto Ah Hi.
The echoes of the past weave through time and genealogy to the present.
Dedicated to, inspired, and fully funded by family, Tautai is a modern exploration of the playwright's love of Polynesian mythology and storytelling, woven into the kiekie that our Tokelauan urban youth live in today.
It is a fishing trip with song, dance, gaming, b-boying, and giant sea turtles.
*Some language may offend*
The play is directed by the multi talented Oscar Kightley and assisted by Shimpal Lelisi both of Naked Samoans, Bro' Town, and Sione's Wedding fame.
Set design is by highly experienced Sean Coyle, a director of the Pacific Institute of Performing Arts (PIPA).
Tautai is brought to life by a cast of dynamic performers: Iaheto Ah Hi - a Toi Whakaari graduate, played Stanley in Sione's Wedding; Shimpal Lelisi - played Sefa in Sione's Wedding, and is also a reporter for Tangata Pasifika; Semu Filipo - a Toi Whakaari graduate, played ambulance driver Grunter in Shortland Street; Victoria Schmidt - a graduate of the Unitec Performing and Screen Arts, played Aaliyah in Sione's Wedding.
