NZSO | Cellist Gautier Capuçon performs Strauss
Sibelius' Tapiola was Sibelius' very last tone poem. A haunting study of Finland's northern forests, it features one of music's most terrifying storms. Strauss' colourful Don Quixote gives another opportunity for Gautier CAPUÇON to demonstrate his rapport with the NZSO in the virtuosic cello solo. Pietari Inkinen shares his insight into the music of his compatriot Sibelius in the Second Symphony. An imaginatively-scored work of great strength, at times sombre, at others joyous, it expresses the Finns' triumph against oppression.
