Bite Size Theatre is a contemporary theatre project and first public production in Wellington by Sebastian Sommer (artistic director, producer) as part of his Master of Theatre Arts in Directing (MTA) at Toi Whakaari: New Zealand Drama School and Victoria University.
The project involves the contribution from seven teams made up of established and emerging performers and artists.

The Bite Size Theatre project kicks spring off with a Bang by circling around the topic, Explosion!
Short performances (5-10minutes) relating to this topic are produced by seven teams, each given artistic freedom to create their interpretation of this idea, aiming to give audiences a more holistic impression of the concept. For performers and audiences alike, the space is a mix between a theatre and a gallery. Audiences move between stages to watch each ‘bite’, experiencing something intriguing and new at every turn.

Sommer’s idea for Bite Size Theatre first came to mind whilst attending a festival of short films and wondering,
“why live theatre does not explore the possibilities and challenges of very short performances...The idea of taking one topic and seeing it through different perspectives with different artistic means I find pretty exciting...I am glad to have found so many thrilling artists and such a great team."

Teams for this year’s Bite Size Theatre engage in a variety of performances and diverse styles involving: theatre pieces (Ashley DeMoville, Binge Culture), dance works (Jana Castillo), performance art (Sascha Perfect & Chris Ulutupu), musical theatre (C Sharp) and a video installation (Astrid Gleichmann).

Bite Sized Theatre - A fusion of talent arranged for an explosive evening!
