New sculptural works by Tanya Blong

Exhibition: The Lane Gallery
29 September – 17 October
Tanya Blong uses the vessel as a metaphor for life’s own journeys.
Her sculptures relate to traditional navigation and are also interwoven with the relationships of life.

Influenced by the methods of the Pacific navigators, Blong interprets the elements of star compassing, living sea markers and general journeys within her work.

However she also keeps the work open to interpretation with metaphors that lie
within the work, indicating voyage as the psychological journey of life.

The titles of each sculpture have a folklore quality with hints made
at kinship with ocean animals, journeying and there is a strong sensation
of the humble stillness of the ocean.
