This latest show by Paul Maseyk is the last body of work Maseyk made at Driving Creek in the Coromandel before relocating to Whanganui. In this series of works including ceramics and paintings Maseyk has developed a group of stacked shapes that are reminiscent of domestic forms of vases and jars with lids or stoppers. Maseyk’s sense of humour and graphic illustration decorate the surfaces and cover a range of topics from Coromandel, his Australian contemporary painting hero and word play. The resulting wood-fired works portray a painterly approach to colour. This is only the second time Maseyk has shown the two media together in Auckland and follows on from his first solo exhibition in Sydney, Australia with Evan Hughes Gallery.
