"I’ve always been enthralled by how fast our brains can process images. In every second of cinema there are 24 individual frames whizzing past your eyes.
I always attempt to capture movement in my paintings. With this series I included ‘time’. The results are 24 paintings equivalent to one second of motion. It’s an animation of sorts reflecting a large strip of Film.
Very early in the process it became apparent that each painting had its own agenda. I was constantly wrangling to maintain the sequence yet allow each work to stand on its own.
The character turns his head and mouths a word. I’ll leave it up to you to decipher what he is saying and also his state of mind.
Animation requires great patience yet my painting style is all instinct and feel. It would have been simple to carefully match each frame to make the animation perfect but where’s the fun in that?
To best experience the work, I challenge you to run around the gallery and view all 24 paintings in exactly one second."
