Ruth Cole’s exhibition ‘Muriwai’ celebrates her 25th solo exhibition, the first being with the Denis Cohn Gallery in 1984.

This exhibition pays particular attention to the edge of the land where the earth meets water and sky. This spatially ambiguous arena is completely fluid, never fixed. Muriwai beach and South Head offer a notable paradox of extreme tidal shifts, surf energy and wind propulsion - endless dynamics against a seemingly infinite yet sharply defined dune fringe.

Cole’s large scale oil works on linen are textured and sensual, highlighting horizons and areas of warmth. The brushwork is decadent and rich in tone and variation, overloading the senses into nuances of the familiar and the distant. She is an exceptional painter who is esteemed by colleagues and critics alike.

‘Muriwai’ will open with a preview from 6pm 10/09/09 and run until 29/09/09
