Often cited as being New Zealands greatest influence on the folk rock revival, The Black Velvet Band embraces traditional and contemporary Celtic songs, original compositions and fresh interpretations of old favourites.

Formed in the early 1990s, The Black velvet band have performed at many high profile events around New Zealand including a performance with the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra in August '08
