The Cathedral Choir of the Metropolitan Cathedral of the Sacred Heart presents an exciting recital on Sunday October 11. The programme consists of Ralph Vaughan Williams’ renowned Mass in G minor paired with the premiere performance of another double choir mass, the Missa Sacri Cordis, especially written for the choir by young composer Michael Forde.
“Michael’s work is remarkably assured, and makes a perfect counterpart to Vaughan Williams’ justly famous Mass in G minor,” says Director of Music Michael Stewart. This is Stewart’s third year in charge of the music at Sacred Heart, a position he holds concurrently with his work as Music Director of The Tudor Consort.
The Cathedral Choir will also perform selections from William Byrd’s settings of the Propers for the Feast of the Assumption.
All proceeds for the concert will go to The Friends of Cathedral Music, an organisation that supports the choir’s aim to keep traditional music alive and vibrant in the Catholic Church.
