For many years New Zealander, Bill Pickering led the unmanned space programme at the Jet Propulsion laboratory in Pasadena, California. His achievements were truly outstanding. During his tenure the first U.S satellite was launched, the Ranger missions took the first close-up pictures of the Moon, surveyor craft landed on the Moon and space craft were sent to Mercury, Venus and Mars. He is the only New Zealander to have appeared twice on the cover of Time magazine.
Join respected space historian Douglas Mudgway, himself a former JPL employee, as he explores the career of New Zealand’s own deep space pioneer.
Beyond the Frontier is presented in association with the Stardome Observatory.
