Artist Finn Fair has long made a fond connection between pigeons and the under class, he views the pigeon as a proud, heroic icon of the downtrodden and disenfranchised. Fair has developed this concept into his recent body of work entitled, Shine On Dirt.
Fair’s aim is to celebrate his friends, the artists, musicians, labourers, workers, beneficiaries, the ill, the eccentric, the misfits and the downtrodden from all walks of life. Fair is drawn to these people in search of a realness which he feels is absent from much contemporary art and the galleries which host it.
“I think pigeons are creatures of curious beauty, even those with balding feathers and gnarled feet. I have spent much time observing them and their habits and found specific pigeons with their looks, movements and behaviours reflect the personalities of people I know. The title of the show, Shine On Dirt is an obvious sign of adoration for the beautiful personalities I have surrounded myself with”.
