Peter Mcintyre OBE. New Zealand 1910 - 1995

Peter McIntyre's works are so resonant of a particular time and feeling in New Zealand, that it gives me great pleasure to present this wonderful and varied collection of his paintings and drawings. McIntyre's books were a staple presence in every New Zealand household, with his representations of faraway locations in Europe, Southeast Asia, America and even Antarctica, often providing New Zealanders with their first glimpse of these exotic places.

The way in which McIntyre crafts the noise and texture of breaking ice in "Ice Breakers, Antarctica", or the muddy and oily waters of Hong Kong Harbour in his "Junks", mean one is not merely given a visual interpretation of a scene but the atmosphere and smell of it as well. Peter McIntyre is certainly one of New Zealand's most renowned and distinguished painters, and I sincerely hope you enjoy these works as much as I do.
