A Heritage Week performance.
For over 100 years, the Canterbury Caledonian Society pipebands and pipers have been there for special occasions in Christchurch - happy and sad. In sympathy with the Doves and Defences theme of this year's Heritage Week, this concert salutes a tradition going back to the 17th Century of pipe bands leading their regiments into battle. Most likely because of the consequent carnage, the practice was banned in World War 1 but there were still bands on the battlefields of El Alamein and Normandy.

Today, the Canterbury Caledonian Pipe Bands perform in memory of their comrades of the past and with a wish for a peaceful future.
