Curated by Stephen Cleland.

Modern Physics presents a selection of local and international artists who explore heightened perceptions of gravity. The exhibition focuses on inventive conceptions of stability and motion within performance-based video and contemporary sculpture. Artists in the exhibition include the 2009 Venice Biennale Australian representative Shaun Gladwell, performance artists Bas Jan Ader and Philip Dadson, and sculptors John Ward-Knox and Eddie Clemens.

The exhibition also presents for the first time an epic collaboration between Auckland artist Alex Monteith and the stunt pilot group the Red Checkers. In early 2009 Monteith approached the Red Checkers about producing a video work that would fully capture an aerobatics routine. Working closely with the pilots, she mounted cameras to each of their cockpits to record their individual flights in real-time. Monteith’s large scale presentation of Composition for RNZAF Red Checkers will present the experience of flight from mesmerising perspectives - a must see of the festival.

On the opening day (10 October), there will be a free bus departing from Artpsace, 300 Karangahape Road in CBD at 1.30pm and will return to the same location from Te Tuhi at 3.30pm. There will a DJ on the bus.
