This course offers an introduction to the extraordinary development of surrealism from the 1920s to 1960s. It examines the emergence of surrealism in the wake of the Great War, its response to the political challenges of the interwar years, and its legacy after World War II. In addition to covering the history of surrealism, the course also introduces the major concepts of surrealist theory and discusses works by several artists and writers associated with surrealism.
