Last and First

One would say that a South African teacher and a French scientist do not have much in common and you’d be right in so far as they feel like two halves of a whole. In this world of contrasts, opposites attract and in this exhibition, they’re pulled together.

For Cecily, now in her third decade of producing and teaching art, it has woven through all of her business and life serving as the metaphors for her work. Much as she loves it, she has decided to stop painting for a while to allow more time for her creative leadership work.

For Gwen, it’s her first show. She is exploring her unconsciousness through expressionism, a very active way of painting. She paints intuitively and spontaneously. This mysterious intentionality lies beyond planning and thinking. It is held within, to the point where energy builds to such intensity that it must throw itself out.
