Robin Kewell Film Night
7.30pm, Saturday 14 November
A month of living dangerously.
A filming trip to North Borneo (Sabah) where mountains were climbed, rain forests explored, politics exposed, durian and mangostines devoured, traitors, t-shirts, pitcher plants, cockroaches, cartoons, cable cars and orchid poaching… once again cameraman Robin Kewell dips into his film archive to bring this talk alive. Setting out from the UK to shoot a tourist promotional film, things took a very different turn on arrival… film clips, photos, drawings and extracts from Robin’s diary all add up for another evening of armchair adventure.
Image: Extract from diary - “I’m writing this in a small hut 10,500ft up the side of Mount Kinabalu, the sacred mountain of the spirit of the dead, thousands of feet below lightning flashes down into the dark, damp forests, above me the ink black sky is studded with stars, it’s 2am, it’s cold and it’s time for breakfast before we climb the final section of the mountain in the dark… to be on the peak for sunrise.”
