Helensville Heritage Day

The second Helensville (Te Awaroa) Heritage Day is coming up and we are looking forward to another successful event. Dress up in Heritage Costume and make a day of a visit to the country to experience some local hospitality and entertainment. There will be a repeat of the Historic House tour where 5 private homes in the township will be open to the public, including one of the jewels of the region, Te Makiri.

The Museum will be open again with working displays, WWII Military Vehicle display, historic lectures including the opportunity to hear living legend Flora Thirkettle, Queen of the Kaipara talk about her fishing days. Descendents of the original McLeod Family will Address the Haggis and descendents of the original Maori families will share some of their culture as well. Mainline Steam is sending the Kaipara Cannonball to visit which will arrive at our lovely historic railway station with its shops and cafes. You will be pleasantly surprised to find some unique shops and cafes open on the day along with music dance and other festivites.
