He grew up in Longreach in Central Queensland the son of a sheep shearer. Moved to the Gold Coast where he became a roof-tiler, moved to Sydney and decided to walk on stage at the Harold Park Hotel one night, told everyone how a bird had poo-ed on him that day and the rest…….(as they say)…..is history.
Carl has trod the boards throughout Australia, New York, L.A, London, New Zealand, Ireland, Singapore, Edinburgh and has been invited twice to the prestigious Montreal International Comedy Festival in the past 5 years. He has appeared on ‘The Footy Show’ in Australia and Rove Live more than any other comedian.
Carl’s first visit to New Zealand was to the 2005 International Comedy Festival where his Auckland season was a sell-out success, plus he was voted ‘Best International Show’.
Carl furthered his popularity beyond Auckland during his first National tour in July 2007, he returns to New Zealand in November to explore some further towns in this great land.
Carl has released three DVDs in Australia. The first, “Carl Barron Live” is the highest selling stand-up comedy DVD in Australian retail history having sold more than 200k copies. This is far in excess of such global comedy luminaries like Billy Connelly, Jerry Seinfeld and Robin Williams. His second release “Whatever Comes Next” is at 150k copies and the latest DVD “Walking Down the Street” released in August has already sold 60k
People of all ages and from all walks of life are instinctively drawn to Carl’s unique brand of humour - because it’s about us. It’s how we see ourselves and we laugh like hyenas because we’ve all said & done those things…more than once…
Maybe it’s his big brown eyes or his almost shy, uncanny observations of everyday life, but it doesn’t seem to matter where Carl Barron decides to perform – his shows sell out - its why he’s loved the world over. He’s been doing stand-up for well over a decade and tours relentlessly all across the world. Invitations to prestigious international festivals are all taken in his stride and are as important as a local Friday night gig around the corner.
He’s no fake, just a bloke who loves what he does – communicating and making people laugh.
...' But the star of the evening is Carl Barron, who has the audience in fits with his resonating observations of common experiences. With a dead-pan expression breaking out into gleaming wickedness, this skinny Gandhi-like comedian turns the tables on the mundane…..” The Scotsman
"A gifted physical comic and monologist"…..The LA Times
"His wry, acute insights are so warmly received because people are instantly aware of what he is talking about”…… Dominion Post
