International Australian Bass, Damian Whiteley comes to New Zealand this November to play the world’s most infamous librettist and scoundrel, Lorenzo Da Ponte in ‘mozart & ME’.
Written & directed by Melvyn Morrow, ‘mozart & ME’ is the life-story of Lorenzo Da Ponte, Mozart’s librettist (or lyricist).
For Lorenzo Da Ponte was much much more than just a librettist – he was a Jew who converted to Christianity, became a priest, was defrocked, played the violin in a Venetian brothel and who befriended Casanova…. He also had a penchant for poetry and eighteen year old girls...
Da Ponte moved from country to country around Europe (often just in the nick of time..) and wrote some the world’s most loved librettos for Mozart's Don Giovanni, Le Nozze di Figaro and Cosi Fan Tutte.
Surprise is in store for audiences with critically acclaimed Bass Damian Whiteley performing an amazing catalogue of Mozart/Da Ponte hits amongst many others (including Salieri, Martini, Martin y Soler, Paisiello) at the grand piano.
Don’t miss this outstanding performance, depicting the life of one of the world’s most astonishing and larger-than-life characters!
Book now - strictly limited New Zealand season!
