Between 2004 and 2006, Christmas Wonderland took over 42,000 people on a magical journey celebrating all things Christmas. This November that adventure continues! Don’t miss this opportunity to experience one of the most visually breathtaking Christmas events in New Zealand.
Walk through this amazing trail of over 150 stunningly lit and decorated trees, making it New Zealand’s largest indoor Christmas forest. This phenomenal event has extended it’s programme to 10 days promising you one festive occasion your whole family will enjoy!
Regarded by many as one of the most visually stunning celebrations of Christmas in New Zealand, Christmas Wonderland is a truly unforgettable family experience that will inspire both young and old alike.
One of its unique features is its ability to showcase a spectacular array of 1000’s of Christmas decorations. These decorations are sourced both locally and internationally ensuring a stunning range, rich in diversity and vibrancy.
A special section of Wonderland is always focused on New Zealand’s own unique style and celebration of Christmas, expressed through a wide range of Kiwiana.
There is a fully functioning Café onsite that operates for the complete opening times of Wonderland and serves delicious home style cooked food and baking. You could also visit our Gift Shop that is generously stocked with all kinds of Christmas treats.
Musical entertainment is another highlight of the event, provided at various times throughout each day to give that added sense of Christmas cheer.
History of Wonderland
In 2000 a small group of people, excited by all things Christmas, where inspired to run Christmas Tours to a selection of individually decorated homes. It was from this initial event that Christmas Wonderland was born. The vision was to create a spectacular event where people of all ages could share the gift of Christmas in one location. That location became available at the Rawene Community Centre in Birkenhead.
The event was then launched in November 2004, opening for 4 days between 12noon and midnight. It was described as a visually spectacular feast of the senses. More than 7,000 visitors viewed it.
Further success followed in 2005 with over 12,000 people visiting the event and in 2006 Wonderland welcomed more than 20,000 people over a 6 day period. In three short years Christmas Wonderland had become a favourite Christmas tradition for thousands of families within Auckland and around New Zealand.
Christmas Wonderland is only possible because of the thousands of volunteer hours donated by church and community groups, as well as professional business people, all of whom offer a diverse range of skills and expertise. Without this generous contribution of time, Christmas Wonderland would not be possible.
All proceeds raised during the event are donated back to the Rawene Centre to help support the development of their premises and the community services they provide.
