Artist talk by Kohai Grace, who’s exhibition He Maumaharatanga - A Woven Tribute is currently on display in the mediagallery.

Rangimarie
(NZ, 1923 - 1987, Exempt, 60 mins)
A selection of films, including rare 1920s excerpts from the Whanganui River and the East Coast of scenes of “Maori Life”. The footage, shot by the Dominion Museum, includes footage of local Maori making hinaki (eel traps), as well as netting and catching fish, weaving, hand games and music making. Artist weaver Kohai Grace has said these films inspired her work in the current exhibition and it’s a rare opportunity to see them on the big screen.
There will also be a screening of Waiora - Rangimarie (1987) a short documentary on the life and work of expert weaver Rangimarie Hetet.
