Blood Wedding is no ordinary love story; it is a fiery challenge to our senses of duty, honour and desire.
Blood Wedding is one of the most anticipated productions of the 2009 Wellington theatrical calendar.
Passion, lust, love, duty and betrayal are central themes of this play, set in the searing heat of the long Spanish summer as a village prepares to marry off a prized bride – except her heart still burns for her true love. Leonardo, who just happens to be already married.
Award-winning director Willem Wassenaar helms a star-studded cast in his eagerly-awaited return to Circa Theatre, having directed seasons of The Glass Menagerie and A Streetcar Named Desire. Wassenaar won the 2007 Chapman Tripp Award for Most Promising New Director for Angels in America.
With one of the best ensemble line-ups to share a stage in Wellington this year, the cast features Geraldine Brophy (Second Hand Wedding, Outrageous Fortune and Shortland Street's beloved Moira), Rachel Forman (Apollo 13: Mission Control, Turbine, Blackbird – winning the 2007 Chapman Tripp Award for Actor of the Year), and Dean O'Gorman (Toy Love, Shortland Street, Hercules).
