Blenheim Musical Theatre is pleased to bring you the Wairau River Wines season of Blood Brothers.
Blood Brothers opened in London's West End, April 1983, and had a very successful run. It reopened in July 1988 and has now been playing continuously for 20 years.
The original 1983 season won two Laurence Olivier Awards - Musical of The Year and Actress of The Year. In 1988 it won another Olivier Award for Actor of The Year.
When it opened on Broadway in 1993, it was nominated for six Tony Awards.
From the pen of the award winning author of Shirley Valentine and Educating Rita, comes Blood Brothers, a musical of great charm, comedy and humanity.
Set in the 1950's and 60's of The Beatles era, in Liverpool, we meet Mrs Johnstone, deserted by her husband and struggling to feed a houseful of kids. She learns she is expecting twins and knows she cannot possibly afford to keep them. She cleans for childless Mrs Lyons who begs one of the twins from her at birth.
Mickey and Edward grow up streets apart not knowing the truth - but become firm friends. This relationship inflames deep-seated fears for both mothers, struggling to keep the secret.
Blood Brothers will set your heart alight.
