The short story is a dinghy, a life raft, a ray of light from a lighthouse and a broken oar found on the beach. Masters of the short narrative - David Malouf from Australia and Owen Marshall from New Zealand - join relative newcomers Charlotte Grimshaw and Paula Morris to talk about the excitement of ellipsis, of being brief. Haiku or handstand on shifting sands? These four fascinating and highly individual writers read from their work and discuss this perennial favourite of readers and authors. They also choose their own all-time favourite short story by another author, to which they return, again and again. Chair: Sue Orr, writer and 2008 preliminary judge for the Sunday Star-Times Short Story Competition.
