In the title poem of his award-winning The King of Suburbia, Irishman Iggy McGovern writes about towing the rubbish out to the street to form a “twenty-one black wheelie-bin salute”. This debut collection of “carefully wrought poems, of sonnets, rhyming quatrains and one sestina” (Marion McLeod, Listener) is full of droll, whimsical images and sentiments on suburban life. Iggy's first poems were written while he was recovering from having his appendix out, an enforced break from the day job as Associate Professor of Physics at Trinity College in Dublin. Iggy joins Bill Manhire for an hour of poetry and craic.
