Numerous writers support themselves by teaching creative writing, and in so doing tread a fine line between investing in their students and retaining the time and energy required for their own work. Four successful novelists give you the benefit of their wealth of collective experience by sharing at least five things they wish they knew when they started writing (and, perhaps, teaching). And how has their own writing benefited, or suffered, from articulating their thoughts on the creative process for students? Debra Adelaide is currently on leave from teaching creative writing at the University of Technology in Sydney; Marina Endicott teaches creative writing at the University of Alberta; Paula Morris teaches creative writing at Tulane University, and Kirsty Gunn is Professor of Creative Writing at the University of Dundee. Chair: Jo Drayton, biographer and Associate Professor of Design at Unitec.
