Brazilian Afro Funk Explosion featuring Batucada Sound Machine and special guests including Tama Waipara, Cherie Mathieson, Jennifer Zea.

“When a band causes the audience to stamp their feet for an encore…after they just played the encore, it’s pretty obvious their performance was shit-hot…”

This review came direct from BSM’s most recent performance at the Perth International Arts Festival, and aptly sums up what the band is about….an unstoppable live show.

Definately the drums - the djembe in particular - nothing like a good African drum and dance session to get your rhythm flowing.

Polythene pipes - you can make an amazing sound with them. Cut them into different lengths and let the kids loose on them

Steady footstep through the leaves in the park. Or maybe the sound of a ball of paper being patted around in 'keepy-uppie' Actually, I think the jangle of keys is a great sound - it says "I'm off somewhere" or "I'm home safely". Both pretty good feelings :)

I know it's cheesy, but I am fascinated with steel drums ever since I first heard them at Disneyland! Yes, I know that's no excuse, but I can't help but hear steel drums now without smiling thinking of sunshine and good times. Having said that, I can't wait to see Stomp again in May. :-)

Drumming pens, pencils, etc on desks just does not do it for me. But the beat of a drum in a military parade or a brassband or a pipeband brings on all the stirrings of excitement and thrills. The Polynesian drums are also exciting, but fearful because I was scared of being picked to go up and dance with them in front of the crowd!

A full drum kit a la rock bands is my idea of percussion. Cymbals, high tops, et al. What a sight & yet if you're talented only one arm is needed!

I'm Polynesian/European so the drums are exciting, intoxicating, erotic and invigorating! They make you want to move, groove, dance and stomp your feet, sway your hips, move your head...the drum calls to you, it moves you and you can answer it in movement. I love the drums, infact I love all musical instruments and winning tickets to this event would be sooo exciting.
