Outspoken and controversial, Dr Ranginui Walker (Te Whakatōhea) is a hugely respected teacher, writer, iwi consultant and activist. A long affiliation with the University of Auckland (Te Wananga o Waipapa), includes his appointment as Pro-Vice Chancellor (Māori), and he became a member of the Waitangi Tribunal in 2003. His sixth published work was an insightful and broadly appealing biography, Tohunga Whakairo (2008), of the late Paki Harrison (Ngati Porou), regarded as one of New Zealand’s greatest master carvers. Paul Spoonley wrote the biography of this major and sometimes controversial figure who has influenced hugely the path of Pākehā and Māori relations in the twenty-first century. This is a rare opportunity to hear Dr Walker talk with Paul Spoonley about his life, and the process of recording it for prosperity. Introduction: Penguin publisher Geoff Walker.
