Hot on the heels of last week's announcement that Malian Rokia Traore will join the WOMAD 2009 bill, comes the confirmation of Kiwi audience favourites Anika Moa and band, The Sami Sisters and Andrew White to the line-up.

Argentinian diva Mercedes Sosa, who was announced as part of the WOMAD NZ 2009 line-up on 29 October, has unfortunately had to withdraw from her Australia-New Zealand tour due to conflicting recording commitments.

WOMAD 2009 is excited to welcome Rokia Traore from Mali to join the party. By her own admission, Traore is not a “Malian traditional singer,” instead blending blues, contemporary rock and a hint of rockabilly. But that really doesn’t sum up Traore’s sound. She is regarded as one of the most experimental African singer-songwriters and has really just created her own style.

Full artist line-up for WOMAD 09:

Arte Kanela (Australia/Spain)
Bedouin Jerry Can Band (Egypt)
Brendan Power (NZ)
Dengue Fever (Cambodia/USA)
Dona Rosa (Portugal)
Fat Freddy’s Drop (NZ)
Geoffrey Gurrumul (Australia)
The Gyuto Monks (Tibet/Australia)
Hinemoana Baker (NZ)
Justin Adams and Juldeh Camara Trio (UK)
Little Bushman (NZ)
Lo Cor de la Plana (France)
Rokia Traore (Mali)
Mihirangi (NZ)
Mikidache (Mayotte/France)
Moana and the Tribe (NZ)
The Mobile Sewing Company (Netherlands)
Natacha Atlas (Egypt/UK)
People In Your Neighbourhood (NZ)
Rachel Unthank and The Winterset (UK)
Russ Jones - Future World Funk (UK)
Sa Dingding (China)
Seckou Keita SKQ (Senegal)
Seun Kuti & Egypt 80 (Nigeria)
Shona Laing (NZ)
Ska Cubano (Cuba/UK)
Speed Caravan (Algeria/France)
U Shrinivas (India)

Over three-days, more than 200 artists from 20 different countries perform on six stages. The essence of this festival - New Zealand's pre-eminent world music, arts, and dance festival - is the discovery and enjoyment of music from around the globe.

Set in the stunning 52 hectare park and garden - the TSB Bowl and Brooklands Park, New Plymouth, this venue has gained a reputation as one of the most beautiful outdoor venues in the world.

At the heart of the festival is The Global Village. Made up of more than 80 stalls trading a vast range of international foods, beverages, arts and crafts.

Workshops with performers are very popular and the Kidszone brings out the creativity in all children. WOMAD is known for its family-friendly atmosphere.

This annual event has a capacity of 11,500 people per day so there is ample space to accommodate everyone within the 52-hectare park.

For the first time, the 2009 event will feature a Sustainable Village and new chill out areas.

Camping and marae style accommodation is available on-site and the city offers a wide variety of accommodation – from low cost to high cost.

This festival is three-days of vibrant and dynamic enjoyment, discovery and journey.

Come on & take me to the Carnaval
Where the people dance & sway
    Doing Samba down at Rio
And Grand Parades along the street
Going till the break of day

Hurry take me to the Carnaval
In the city of my dreams
And music gets into my soul
The costumes are a flight of fancy
    Brazilians' passion cause for screams

    Samba, samba, samba Carnaval
    Samba, samba night & day

(With apologies to Paul Simon -
Brazil is the country of my dreams!)

Without a doubt it would have to be Antarctica...who can & has the opportunity to travel there? Apart from scientist and govt officials, common folk like myself must dream and only wonder. It would be a journey and a life experience second to none - icebergs, glaciers, seals, penguins, whales...well worth turning the dream into a reality I think!!

Havana Cuba before they open it back up again. Why? No coca cola, no ge, all organic produce and could maybe catch buena vista social club in some oldskool plush, marble floor palace, dance with my wife, smoke cigars, walk in ches footsteps and then duck out for a surf in the carribean waters. perfect

I would love to go the Nadaam Festival in Mongolia - a centuries old festival that features horse races, archery and wrestling competitions and music. Would be great to meet some of the nomadic people too and even stay with them to see what their lifestyle is like.

I'd love to travel the whole 7,000km's of coastline of India with my surfboard. Experiencing the colourful, chaotic, sensory overload and spiritual wisdom of the ancient bustling country. While chasing waves in largely unexplored coastline where a crowd in the water is a nonexistent thing. I'm sure I would be the first the first female to surf some of those spots too!

My perfect holiday is close to the water, I will arrive by water in a longboat and hike to a musical location nestled in beautiful native and exotic bush. Songs from afar serenade as a dance to the foreign beats. A few days of romance with an international festival is all I desire.

If i could go anywhere in the world it would be South America - especially Ecuador, Brazil and Cuba. It amazes me that people who have experienced such hardship can still live such colorful lives, producing music and dance that emanates vibrance.

My partner and I have just had a baby who is 3 months old now and we'd love to travel as we haven't been anywhere together yet and my partner hasn't really travelled at all. And seeing as baby are money eating machines, our travel plans will be on the backburner for a while. Our dream trip would be taking a couple of months and flying into Guatemala and making our way down Central America into South America all the way down to Argentina. I've already even got a mayan sling to carry bubba in! It would be amazing to see such beautiful places, experience all the different cultures with my amazing man and child. And if sharing this with you means we get to go to WOMAD together then that too is AMAZING!! Bubba went to Prana for New Years when he was 9 weeks old so he is festival experienced already!
    Peace, love and mungbeans!

I would love to attend a warm place below are large mountain, a place with warm iron-sand beaches, a town with people mingling in amongst the cafe scene, and thriving art community, in a region steeped in historic significance and pounded by a dramatic 200km coastline.
Specifically a place within a 55 acre park and garden- standing in front of the main stage, set at the base of a natural amphitheatre in an acoustic experience second to none.
There will be beautiful joyful people all around singing, dancing, engaging each other.
    This place is called WOMAD.

Crew on a boat to Tasmania, walk and bike to the north of the island, crew on another boat to mainland Australia. Meander to Cape York in the North meeting and helping out all the good people on the way (this could take a while). Then crew again on boats to visit and do the same in the Torres Straight islands, and the same in Papua New Guinea, through Timor, Indonesia, Malaysia, all of IndoChina, bike around India (dance to some Bhangra). After visiting Bhutan and helping keep their gross national happiness stoked up, cross the Himalaya from Nepal into Tibet. A few more years in China then across the Bering for the most almighty helpful hitch-hiking road trip across Canada. Then just keep going! (There's still the Andes to visit and the Amazon, Iquacu Falls, the Pantanal, the Pampas, Cape Horn...)

I really, really, REALLY want to go to Egypt and go up/down the Nile – at least 3 times in my life. I have loved things to do with Ancient Egypt since I was 10 years old and discovered a book in the New Plymouth library on myths and legends of Ancient Egypt. I built a temple to Isis in our backyard, pinching Mum’s sheets to dress up as the High-Priestess and press-ganging my little sisters to be priestesses. My house has got pictures, paintings (papyrus), and relics from Egypt – even my duvet has Ancient Egyptian images on it! Recently I did a course on hieroglyphics so I can read the writing in the pyramids, other monuments and artifacts. (I’m not really obsessive – just love everything to do with Ancient Egypt!). PS Don't live in NP anymore, but it's still my home town. Haven't made it to Womad, but it's right up there in terms of things I want to do!!

I've always wanted to travel to Morocco and taste the delicious cuisine over there - succulent lamb that is so tender that it falls straight off the bone into your fingers, rich tangines, flavorsome couscous and sweet mint tea to finish it off….Mmmmm I’m drooling just thinking about it… And to experience it all within the customs of the area is a long held dream of mine.

Would like to book (and go to ) a tour for my husbands band The Managers at all the Womads around the world, to give them a taste of NZ flavour Ska/Reggae. Wouls stop off in Tokyo and tour with Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra. American Road trip with The Slackers and The Aggrolites, maybe Sublime?
Canada with SkaBoom; Cuba with Ska Cubana(NZ Womad 2009).
Definitely JAMAICA where it all stared, and I'd like to see Bob Marley's Shrine and visit his birthplace(Happy Birthday Bob).
England to meet relatives from all sides and Nick can meet his half sister in Barnsley.A tour with The Specials, Special Beat; The English Beat. We would definitely need a Nanny cos although our son's Zac and Sam 9 and 7 are huge Fans of Ska,the late nights might be a bit much. However the most important Festival we would love to go to is WOMAD 2009 , as I have only been to 2 first Auck ones. I danced to Baaba Maal with Zac in my womb. 3 The Circle, Manly. Whangaparaoa. 0930. Auckland. Thanks.www.nzska.com

After seeing many places n the Northern Hemisphere, I decided to come to NZ to see places in the Southern such as Roturua (and the thermal pools), Franz Joseph Glacier, Arthur's Pass and Australia. But the most exotic place in my mind would be Fiji and I've yet to fulfill my dream.

Dreams are free here! (I heard)

Camping With the Bedouins in Jordan

Camping in simple traditional goat hair tents will make you leave modern life behind. The harshness of desert life is the basis of Bedouin hospitality; basically it was formed because it was necessary to work together way out in the Wadi (dry riverbed). At some point the unforgiving conditions encourage being forgiving. Which is needed more in this world . Apparently the Bedouins will have you walk miles out into the desert just to put everything out of your overloaded brains and simply listen to your own breathing.
Traditionally Bedouins accept all strangers with hospitality and protection, knowing that they themselves might need it some day themselves. The harsh environment required it. The Wadi (dry riverbed) doesn’t suffer fools easily.
    Definately a attitude changer!!!!
