" . . . the playing of this wonderful trio was so beautiful, so perfectly unanimous, seeming to emerge from one soul: it deserved – demanded –almost religious awe.” - The Dominion Post (NZ)
Opening the 2009 Concert Season on a full nationwide tour, Chamber Music New Zealand is delighted to present the return of New York’s Eroica Trio. Their debut New Zealand tour in 2003 packed out halls around the country and had critics ecstatic in their praise.
The Eroica Trio performs in Napier on Saturday 14 March at the Century Theatre.
Featuring pianist Erika Nickrenz, violinist Susie Park and cellist Sara Sant'Ambrogio, all three women are top-ranked award-winning soloists, and last year the trio celebrated its 20th anniversary. Sara and Erika have been playing together since they were 12 years old, and Australian violinist Susie Park joined in 2006 replacing Adele Pena. The trio released a disc of all-American music, their eighth recording for EMI, in late 2008.
The programme for Napier features Felix Mendelssohn's Piano Trio No 2 in C minor, a firm chamber music favourite with its sweeping romanticism and melting melodies, and performed to celebrate the 200th anniversary of Mendelssohn’s birth.
The classical intensity of Mendelssohn is mirrored by Rebecca Clarke's piano trio and contrasts with the flair of Paul Schoenfield, whose Café Music is by turns sassy, bluesy and totally American. Rounding out the programme are two evocative Piazzolla tangos Oblivion and Primavera arranged especially for the Eroica Trio by Piazzolla's own cellist.
The Eroica Trio performs as part of Chamber Music New Zealand's 2009 Subscription Season 'Kaleidoscopes'. Individual tickets for the Eroica Trio go on sale on Monday 9 February or enquire about subscription options by visiting www.chambermusic.co.nz or calling 0800 CONCERT (266 2378).
