Challenging, gripping and beautiful, The White Body, is a major new dance work from Ea Sola, one of the world’s leading contemporary choreographers. Forced to flee her homeland as a child during the Vietnam War, Ea Sola has shaken the dance world with evocative works forged from exile and loss of identity. Her intellectual and moving choreography has been described as ‘dance for thought’, but her work is equally known for its energy and passion. In The White Body, Sola uses choreography and text to explore the meaning of servitude and freedom and draws on the words of philosopher Étienne de La Boétie’s ‘The Discourse of Voluntary Servitude’. The White Body has its world premiere in Hong Kong in March 2009, before coming directly to Auckland. Don’t miss the rare opportunity to see this stunning contemporary work from one of the world’s best.
Auckland Festival 2009 brings the city alive next March with a dazzling programme of more than 200 arts and entertainment events, packed into eighteen exciting days. The biennial festival is a feast of theatre, dance, concerts, cabaret, exhibitions, family events and more, featuring some of the finest national and international artists and companies.
