The next generation of contemporary New Zealand actors take to the stage in 2009 in The Ensemble Project, building on the hugely successful AK07 incarnation that played to critical acclaim and capacity houses. Eight actors will be put through their paces by celebrated Auckland Directors Michael Hurst and Oliver Driver, creating two works that will then be performed in repertory during the Festival. Oliver Driver will direct the devised work Back Story, a celebration of Auckland as an urban metropolis where differing cultures and communities live in a proximity that is sometimes too close for comfort.
Auckland Festival 2009 brings the city alive next March with a dazzling programme of more than 200 arts and entertainment events, packed into eighteen exciting days. The biennial festival is a feast of theatre, dance, concerts, cabaret, exhibitions, family events and more, featuring some of the finest national and international artists and companies.
