Hailed as a masterpiece wherever it has been performed, The Andersen Project, by legendary theatrical auteur Robert Lepage, is one of the most extraordinary and magical productions on offer at Auckland Festival 2009. Dubbed the most exciting theatrical practitioner of our times, Lepage is both celebrated by theatre junkies, and known for making, as Peter Gabriel famously said, ‘theatre for people who don’t like theatre’. In The Andersen Project Lepage directs Yves Jacques (known to New Zealand audiences for his work in The Far Side of the Moon) in a modern fairytale created for the 200th anniversary of Hans Christian Andersen’s birth. Funny, satirical, surreal and technically astonishing this production will be one of the Festival’s most sought-after events.
‘A dazzling ode to the imagination…an evening of storytelling worthy of Hans Christian himself.’ -- The Guardian****
Auckland Festival 2009 brings the city alive next March with a dazzling programme of more than 200 arts and entertainment events, packed into eighteen exciting days. The biennial festival is a feast of theatre, dance, concerts, cabaret, exhibitions, family events and more, featuring some of the finest national and international artists and companies.
