Taonga: Dust, Water, Wind is a mesmerising piece of Maori contemporary dance theatre by acclaimed Atamira Dance Collective, the company behind much of the most fresh and exciting recent local dance works.

Choreographer Louise Potiki-Bryant was inspired both by her Aunty Rona’s 80 years of life on the East Coast of the South Island, and the story of Rona and the Moon. Poetic dance, a powerful original sound-score by Paddy Free, (Winner of Best Music at Tempo Awards 2007 for his composition of Whakairo), and live music by Richard Nunns using taonga puoro (traditional Maori instruments), combine in a piece that explores what is precious to us in our contemporary lives, how we cope with change, and the role of intuition versus modern technology.

Auckland Festival 2009 brings the city alive next March with a dazzling programme of more than 200 arts and entertainment events, packed into eighteen exciting days. The biennial festival is a feast of theatre, dance, concerts, cabaret, exhibitions, family events and more, featuring some of the finest national and international artists and companies.
