Spectacular, enthralling and visually astonishing, Nostalgia promises to be one of Auckland Festival 2009’s most memorable experiences. Osaka-based company Ishinha are known for creating work that defies categorisation, blending movement, theatre, dance, voice, and music with a unique contemporary Japanese sensibility.

Performing in New Zealand for the first time, Ishinha is one of the headline acts of Auckland Festival’s International programme. Nostalgia tells of the passion, joy and heartbreak experienced by Japanese immigrants arriving in South America at the dawn of the 20th century. A rare chance to experience contemporary Japanese Theatre at it’s very best.

Auckland Festival 2009 brings the city alive next March with a dazzling programme of more than 200 arts and entertainment events, packed into eighteen exciting days. The biennial festival is a feast of theatre, dance, concerts, cabaret, exhibitions, family events and more, featuring some of the finest national and international artists and companies.

The smell of mums bread baking on a cold winters night,
the taste of summers first peach as the juice runs down your chin, the warmth of the sun on your face when you were just a child,
the feel of your first kiss and remembering the colour of his eyes, sleepovers with best friends and secrets till midnight,
chocolate chip cookies cooling on the window sill,
a kiss on the forehead from your wonderful dad.
Ahh nostalgia - the bittersweet glory of days gone by....

When I was at high school in year 10, we had the most amazing music teacher called Mr Horne (he did play a horn) who transformed our concert band into one of the best in Auckland. When he left, we realised just what a great and influential man he was. I'm nostalgic for that year of wonderful music making and the memories of a teacher who made coming to school worth while.

Bata Bullets, I had the ones with velcro, wasn't that good with laces. RTR countdown with Robbie Rakete and my spokie dokies on my banana seat bike were choice and sucking on blurples that made your mouth turn funny colours whilst dodging the sprinkler on the back lawn, fun!

I miss the Tooth Fairy, Santa, & trips on the train
School holidays spent with Grandies down on the farm
Hay making. lamb feeding, milking the cows
Walking to school, come rain, hail or shine
That wondrous, carefree time called CHILDHOOD.

just for the simple times as a child, where you're biggest concern is getting the prettiest colour pencil to write with or getting the bigger piece of cake.

I'm nostalgic for the days when we used to get in the car and drive for hours to stay in a cabin in a big holiday camp where us kids used to swim in the lake, ride horses, go on the flying fox as well as going on outings. Making friends with other campers who we would stay in touch with and joining in all the activities until we were hungry and exhausted at the end of the day.

I'm nostalgic for the days where the most important thing was which flavour to make my mud cakes in my tree house. And mum would make me peanut butter and sultanas on celery sticks as snacks!

I'm nostalgic for exploring the NZ countryside, being shorter than the tall wild grass, finding old cars mixed up in the plants by riverbanks. I miss looooonnnnngggg summer holidays that went on forever, Sparkles, Tangy Fruits and Snifters!

Hmm seems I really want something I can't have. The day our children could walk the streets without fear of assault. Nostalgia is something that can cause the mind to work itself up.

ahh nostalgia - take me back to long trips in cars with no air con - where the window was down and 80 was speeding. When you saw the little towns you pass through as little stops along the way, to stretch and run and go to the loo. When having a radio WITH a tapedeck was pretty flash - esp if you played your own mix tape. When the KFC add was too fat kids Hugo and his sister who "sat in the back, with a pack.."...god love em. Actually I dont miss no air con but I do miss the times in those long trips when families actually spoke to each other and played games to pass the time. Whereas this Xmas the trip consisted of 4 people with 4 ipods and each in their own world..cheers technology and progress!!

Im nostalgic for being a kid again, running free, climbing trees, jumping in puddles, playing in the rain, hunting for bugs, getting dirty, playing goodies and badies, sword fighting with sticks, searching for four leaf clovers, halfing my lollies with my little sister, getting up at 6am to watch cartoons and not having a care in the world all that and more!!!

I'm nostalgic for long lazy hazy summer holidays when you were a kid and summer seemed to last forever and I knew nothing about having to go to work on a sunny day

The excitement of childhood experiences. I'd like to build some memories for my children. My own were Gilbert & Sullivan operas (yeah, showing my age) & the circus. Things are a bit more sophisticated these days - I'd like my kids to say they got to see something amazing like the 3 acts listed, that we'd never be able to afford to take them to. Dreams are free, but experiences are forever....

I am nostalgic for the days when we had only one television channel. Choice was limited and the television was not the focus of our lives. It was a novelty and a distraction, but did not rule the way we existed. On summer evenings we would stay outside until after the sun had set, we would invent ways of entertaining ourserlves, we would come together as a neighbourhood to make our entertainment. And when we had to go inside we spoke to each other or if we needed "me" time we could escape into a book or just daydream in our rooms. And for a real treat we would on occasions go to the theatre or a concert for and be amazed at the talent displayed by people from all walks of life. We were innocents!!

Nostalgic? I had never even heard of this word, but according to dictionary.com:
    nos⋅tal⋅gia   [no-stal-juh, -jee-uh, nuh-] –noun
    1. a wistful desire to return in thought or in fact to a former time in one's life, to one's home or homeland, or to one's family and friends; a sentimental yearning for the happiness of a former place or time: a nostalgia for his college days.
    2. something that elicits or displays nostalgia.

So I guess I would nostalgia to fly back home to attend this amazing show (with the free tickets I am to win) with my mum :)
