What do you get when raw talent meets youth and beauty?

The unique sound and style of a young twenty-ish Welsh songstress by the name of Amy Duffy, or just plain Duffy as the world is coming to know and love her.

Blessed with a striking vocal range and an undeniable presence, this pocket-sized Welsh diva is bringing her phenomenal, distinctive voice and band to New Zealand in March/April 2009 for three very special shows.

Duffy first seeped into our consciousness earlier this year with the rhythmic grace of ‘Mercy,’ the first single from her classic retro-soul influenced album Rockferry.

This stunning debut effort achieved one million album sales in six short weeks after release and made the number 1 spot in 11 countries - including New Zealand where sales have now exceeded double platinum. Written and recorded with the help of former Suede guitarist Bernard Butler, Rockferry also boasts the emotionally soulful ballad, ‘Warwick Avenue.’

Blue-eyed soul does not come any better than this.

Don’t miss Duffy, live.

Having toddlers teaches you mercy. Boy oh boy the things you have to put up with and wait out when you have 2 toddlers who both think they are the centre of the universe.

Yesterday my car was hit by some driver who reversed his car without having any clear rear vision.. He has so much stuff at the back of his station wagon, they all piled up covering all the windows!!! My car was quite badly damaged.. even though he was at fault, i decided to let it go..he was a young man with no insurance and he just moved from a small country town to the big city in auckland. I dont know why i didnt press him to take responsibility for the cost of repair, but this kind of reaction must have come from the heart of forgiveness and MERCY!

I had a friend who knows everything going on with my life. When I told her that I am having a problem with a close friend who suddenly won't talk to me, she volunteered to help. She asked what happened, and I told her everything--that I value the friendship I have with the close friend I am having problems with and would like to know what went wrong so that I can correct things. One day, she showed up with my close friend and started accusing me of things. She asked me to apologise to my close friend and concluded that the friendship, both with my close friend and with her, has ended. I played their game, and feeling cornered, apologised for things that they accused me of. I heard later that they started going out and telling people what i supposedly had done. I got mad. But, at the end of the day I know my anger will lead me nowhere. I forgave both of them and moved on. If I win this competition, I will ask her to go with me to tell them that I am now cool with everything.

Mercy is demonstrated when loving unconditionally. My wife has shown me continual mercy and forgiveness over the years. Who would I be not to forgive her and show mercy?

Im currently being merciful. My 16 and 1/2yr old cat Uncle Bully has just been diagnosed with a degenerative and terminal kidney disease (CRF). I love him so much so im doing all i can to make him as healthy and comfortable as possible despite the prognosis and prolong his life (this includes special diets, pills and medicines and intravenous treatments which rehydrate him). I can sense that he isnt ready and doesnt want to go yet and i can tell that by the love and purrs and kisses and cuddles he gives me daily that im doing the right thing despite whats involved and despite advice from friends and family to have him put to sleep.

I constantly show my two pre-schoolers mercy. For example when they have a tantrum lasting two hours because I gave them the wrong drink bottle, when they hurl their dinner at the cat, or when I spend an hour each night listening to them yelling "no bed no bed".

Being "Merciful" is understanding that we are only human and we all make mistakes. Learning to be compassionate, learning to forgive regardless of the circumstances. Looking deep within you for love and kindness, and understanding the fact , that you not only enrich yourself by doing so but you give others permission to be who they are.

When my 'best friend' and fiance decided to start up a sneaky relationship which ended up with her carrying his child i was merciful enough to leave them to each other without going after revenge. I figure that since they're both cheaters eventually it will all come back to them and i'll just sit back and watch!

I've always found that animals should inspire far more mercy than they receive. The number of reports of abuse you see on the news these days is unbelievable. I've started volunteering at the SPCA and helping out with the dogs there and I have to admit they just melt my heart. All they want is just to be with you and be loved. They care about nothing else and yet every single one of these animals has been abandoned. I try and show mercy whenever I can when dealing with animals, we're supposed to be the superior species and yet we seem to so often get it so wrong!

I just got home from work and it's 10.27p.m on a Friday night. I'm too tired of interesting merciful stories so I'm gonna be merciful to myself, and join this competition, in hope that I'll win.

As Winston Churchill said “We will show Mercy but we will not ask for it” . It’s easy really and can be as simple as putting the shopping trolley back to in its correct place after grocery shopping or not parking in the disabled car-park even though there is not another park for miles and you know you will only be 5 minutes.

I have 2 examples that come to mind.
One Friday morning my cat caught a baby bird for me (lovely!), I made a nest for it out of tissues, gave it some water and a bit of food, luckily it was still alive when I got home from work, I then spent the weekend looking after it (my friends thought it the funniest thing "cant go out sorry, have to stay home and look after the bird"). Sadly it passed away some time during Monday while I was at work.
On another note an ex of mine was having a whale of a time divulging personal information about me he'd gathered over the 3 years we were together, I also am partial to some of this kind of info, but since I know it would rip his family apart if it got out I just wished him all the best and walked off.

Mercy to the old people in ol peoples' homes or their own homes who cannot easily look after themselves and who feel humiliated having to depend on others for many of their basic needs. They have done a wonderful job of bringing up the world for us and they deserve our utter compassion, respect and assistance.

It's easy to be merciful when a disaster or tragedy strikes, but if we all showed a just a little more compassion on a daily basis the world would be a much nicer place to live. Even something really small and simple. For my part, everytime I go to the supermarket I purchase an extra canned food item and a box of dog biscuits (even though I don't have a pet!) and place them in the City Mission and SPCA donation boxes at the entrance. I barely notice the extra on my grocery bill but I'm betting the recipients are grateful. It all adds up!

I am merciful to the dog. She gets fed twice daily despite being no use whatsoever. Car got broken into last week while we slept blissfully unaware and faithful old mutt held up her side of the deal - and did NOTHING.

MERCY to all those Welsh rugby supporters who continue to sing with such beautiful voices even when the All Blacks are thrashing their national team . The music I'm sure floats around the valleys of Wales inspiring Duffy & others to SING.

I am now merciful to my brother who has being a complete w****r to me most of his life - even his fantastic partner thinks he has issues! But I have just found out he has been diagnosed with a terminal illness and is not expected to live more than two years at the most and he will be leaving my beautiful 3 year old niece without a daddy.
