Second show announced!
Support for both shows from Mercury Rev and Hollie Smith.
Coldplay will visit New Zealand following their eleven arena shows in Australia next March. The show will be part of their “Viva La Vida” world tour, in support of their new album of the same name.
Coldplay will play at Auckland’s Vector Arena on Wednesday 18 March and Thursday 19 March 2009 with tickets going on sale to the general public through Ticketmaster at 9.00am Monday 22 December.
In 2006 thousands of New Zealanders lobbied Auckland radio station ZM to get Coldplay to include New Zealand on their world tour but unfortunately New Zealand missed out. This year once again supporters have been holding their breath while tickets for the Australian tour dates have been selling faster than ever, hoping they would come here this time.
Countless fans contacted Vector Arena and Ticketmaster desperate for news, and the venue and ticket agency in turn lobbied Chugg Entertainment to make the New Zealand dates a possibility.
Promoter Michael Chugg is thrilled to be the bearer of good news “Finally, fans can take a well deserved deep breath. The wait is over New Zealand, we will be bringing Coldplay’s Viva La Vida tour to Vector Arena next March and it’s going to be huge!” said Chugg.
Following on from an overwhelming response to Australia’s Visa Entertainment pre-sale, a similar pre-sale will be offered to New Zealand’s Visa card holders. A special pre-sale window will start at 9.00am local time on Friday 19 December and run through until 5.00pm on Saturday 20 December unless tickets sell out earlier.
Coldplay’s Viva La Vida - Prospekt’s March edition has just been released in time for the tour announcement. The two-disc deluxe package includes Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends, the band’s fourth full-length album, plus a brand new EP entitled Prospekt’s March.
The EP, which will also be for sale separately, includes six recently-completed songs that the band had begun recording during the Viva La Vida sessions and brand new versions of two album tracks – Lost + (featuring Jay-Z) and Lovers in Japan (Osaka Sun mix).
Viva La Vida was released in June 2008 and went on to chart at No. 1 in 36 countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand, where it spent four weeks in the number one spot. The first two singles from the album; Violet Hill and Viva La Vida, both went top three in the New Zealand airplay chart. And just this week the album has gone double platinum!
