Friday 5 June Programme:
NZSO Music Director Pietari Inkinen conducts Berlioz’ Symphonie Fantastique; a work which caused a sensational scandal when first premiered more than 150 years ago. Its exuberance and drama proved difficult for many to accept, but the work’s brilliant form and enormous orchestral forces speak to audiences today. From Finland comes one of the world’s greatest clarinettists Kari Kriikku to give the New Zealand premiere of the Clarinet Concerto by fellow-countryman Magnus Lindberg. This classic evening begins with the Overture from William Tell.

Saturday 20 June Programme:
Tchaikovsky’s Overture 1812 makes a rousing start to any concert, with its opening hymn a heartfelt plea for peace. Vesa-Matti Leppänen’s ravishing violin solos set the tone for Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade. In a concert full of highlights, visiting clarinet great Kari Kriikku joins the NZSO for Jukka Tiensuu’s Puro for Clarinet and Orchestra.
