Kerikeri now has its very own sculpture created by local and international artist, Chris Booth. The work has been funded by arguably one of the most generous private donations toward the arts ever made in NZ.

The opening ceremony will be a celebration of culture featuring cultural protocol and performances by Ngati Rehia, and rising New Zealand soprano star, Ramonda Taleni. Ms Taleni will perform two waiata, one of which is being specially written for the occasion by celebrated New Zealand composer Gillian Whitehead.

Of this event Mr Booth said, “We are so fortunate in our long history of interwoven cultures here in Kerikeri, we can reinforce this by celebrating current highlights and honouring one of our cultural elders, John Dalton, on the 7th of June”.

John Gow of Connells Bay Center for Sculpture on Waiheke Island said “Chris Booth’s Kerikeri Water Sculpture is arguably one of the most significant public sculptures ever installed in New Zealand. It is a monumental work combining the iconic sculptural materials of stone and bronze. Like Len Lye’s Wind Wand in New Plymouth, Chris Booths Kerikeri Water Sculpture will become an iconic feature of the Kerikeri landscape and will act as a strong draw card for tourism.”

The name of the sculpture will be announced and we will see water cascade down the five columns for the first time. Following the ceremony finger food will be served by local culinary culture restaurant, Food at Wharepuke.
