The Waitakere branch of Forest and Bird invite you to a Concert for the Birds. Help return threatened native bird species to the Waitakere Ranges.

The Concert for the Birds, a musical variety concert, is being held as a fundraiser for the Ark in the Park project. This is a community environmental restoration project, a partnership between the Waitakere branch of Royal Forest & Bird and the Auckland Regional Council. Volunteers currently control pests to low levels on 1200 hectares of parkland at the Cascade Kauri Park in the northern Waitakere Ranges. Our goal is 2000ha.

Proceeds from this event will be used to return threatened native bird species, including kokako, to the Ark in the Park.

Already whitehead, North Island robin and hihi (stitchbird) have been re-introduced to the area, absent for 100 years due to predators such as rats, possums, cats and stoats. Weeds which take over native bush are also being targeted.
