Over recent years I’ve become increasingly aware of how often signs, in one form or another appear in my paintings, which is an imitation of what I see in the ordinary and every day subjects that I often paint. From the beginning of a DOC track in the wilderness, on the road or downtown Auckland, signs, direct, inform, instruct, warn and solicit us, and tend to catch my eye. These observations have been the genesis for SIGN LANGUAGE.
