This annual Sogetsu Ikebana Japanese Flower Arrangements Exhibition is by qualified teachers, members of Sogetsu Teachers' Association of Ikebana, Auckland Branch (a non-profit organization) representing all areas throughout Auckland.
Sogetsu is one of the Ikebana schools of Japanese flower arrangements. Although there are documents dating back to 12th century, it is accepted that Ikebana originated at Muromachi period (1336-1573). Sogetsu is very modern Ikebana compared to other schools. Auckland branch was established 1968 and over the years many students have achieved various teaching grades and continue with their studies by attending monthly Workshop conducted by Takako Martin, a qualified teachers with the highest grade of Riji.
At the exhibition, there will be individual Ikebana displays and also a large group work of bamboo participated by all members. There will be demonstrations on both days. (On 19th at 11:30 a.m. & 2:00 p.m., on 20th at 11:00 a.m. & 1:30 p.m.)
