The NYO was founded by the NZSO’s then Music Director, John Hopkins, in 1959. In the fifty years of its existence, the NYO has given hundreds of talented young musicians the thrill of playing in a quality, full-size symphony orchestra under the direction of a distinguished list of eminent conductors.
