New Zealand’s singing sensation and winner of the Lexus Song Quest 2009, Aivale Cole proudly brings home a concert that is close to her heart – Leontyne ‘n’ Ella. For Wellington born Cole, the concert brings together her two passions - opera and jazz, each performed in two halves of 45 minutes each.
Inspired by two (2) of her favourite singers, Cole will sing two halves of approximately 45 minutes each. The first half features operatic arias such as Ritorna Vincitor from Aida, Vissi d’Arte from Tosca; as sung by the world-renowned black American soprano Leontyne Price. The second half Cole will sing some well-known jazz numbers such as The Man I Love and How High the Moon; inspired and made famous by the jazz legend Ella Fitzgerald. “Leontyne embodies all that I want to be, both as a singer and as a person; while Ella’s fearless approach to exploring the voice and spontaneity inspires me as an artist” says Cole.
Joining Cole will be the incomparable Perth-based English pianist David Wickham who will make his debut in New Zealand. His ability to play both operatic arias and jazz numbers with ease makes Wickham and Cole an enviable duo.
Cole’s love for the two music forms combined with the beauty of her voice makes Leontyne ‘n’ Ella a ‘must attend’. It will be performed in Auckland (12 July), Wellington (16 July), Dunedin (12 August) and Christchurch (16 August). Tickets are available now through Ticketek and TicketDirect from $45.00. Cole’s concerts sell out fast. Make sure you get your tickets now to avoid disappointment.
