John Chen - Australasia’s major virtuoso pianist.

In 2004, at the age of 18, John Chen became the youngest-ever winner of the prestigious Sydney International Piano Competition, taking special prizes for best performance of works by Beethoven, Mozart, Schubert, chamber music, and the 19th & 20th Century concertos. John has rapidly built a high profile throughout Australasia, performing with all the major orchestras and conductors. Based in Los Angeles, John is in New Zealand as a soloist with the National Youth Orchestra, and is appearing at the Christchurch Arts Festival and the Nelson Winter Festival.
The newly commissioned work by John Chen receives its world premiere on this recital tour, made possible with funding from the Arts Foundation of New Zealand.
